Cooler weather, leaves changing colors and pumpkin spice flavored treats can only mean one thing…fall has arrived! Today is the first day of fall, so now that the seasons have officially changed, it’s time to change some home décor. I’m going to share various ways to decorate your dining room table on a budget.
Remember, decorating your dining room table doesn’t have to be about how much money you can spend or if you’re creative and think outside the box. To save money, keep an eye out at flea markets, garage sales and thrift stores for items that can be repurposed as decorations for your dining room.
Anatomy of Great Dining Table Décor
As blogger Michaela explains, kitchen table décor always needs at least a great base and centerpiece. Excellent harvest themed dining room table bases include plaid table runners or warm colored tablecloths. For a great centerpiece, choose any of the following to build a beautiful harvest centerpiece.

1. Pumpkins
Although pumpkins typically represent Halloween, who’s to say that they can’t be used as a decoration throughout the entire fall season. You can use an old, carved out, faux pumpkin as a vase to hold fall flowers, leaves, cotton stems or branches collected from your yard. You can also repurpose your pumpkins for Halloween when you’re ready to transition your fall décor to a more spooky look.
2.Old glass bottles and jars
An alternative to using a faux pumpkin as a vase would be using any type of glass bottle to keep seasonal items in or around. Wrap the bottles in twine or paint them a warm color that represents the fall season, like orange, red or yellow!
3. Pinecones
If you’re in an area where pinecones are common and easy to come by, grab enough to fill a large bowl (or two small bowls) and use your pinecone filled bowl or bowls as a centerpiece. It’ll be all natural and will definitely be seasonal.
4. Leaves and branches
You’d be surprised at what you can use that you’ve already got in your own back yard including leaves, branches, acorns, fall flowers like mums and even berries!
As you’re gathering items for your dining room table, you’ll notice that there are countless shapes and sizes, so you’ll be able to mix and match.
5. Fall candleholders
For those of you who love using candles throughout your home or to decorate your dining room table, be creative when picking out your candles and candleholders. Obviously a fall scent like apple, pumpkin or cinnamon would be best, but mix up the sizes and looks of your candles and candleholders. For instance, jewel and metallic tones are trending for fall 2017, so brass and gold candleholders are a great way to go.
